More details emerge about fatal Pismo Beach car crash

UPDATE 2:36 p.m.: A 21-year-old Bakersfield man was killed early Thursday morning after in a car crash on northbound Highway 101 in Pismo Beach, the CHP said. 

The man's name is being held pending notification of next of kin. 

According to the CHP, the man was a passenger in a 1991 Acura Integra driven by Joshua Hurt, 21, of Bakersfield. 

Hurt was approaching Spyglass Drive when he drove off the roadway and collided with a concrete center divider wall at approximately 4:32 a.m., the CHP said. The car overturned, and Hurt's passenger sustained fatal injuries. 

Hurt, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time, was arrested. He was being treated for moderate injuries at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo before being booked into County Jail. 

Original story 7:25 a.m.: The CHP is reporting a fatality after an early morning accident on northbound Highway 101 in Pismo Beach.

The crash happened about 4:30 a.m. on the highway just north of the F. McLintocks Saloon and Dining House. According to the CHP traffic information website, one vehicle was overturned in the center median and two people were trapped.

Another caller was concerned that a second vehicle was involved, but Pismo Beach police reported to CHP that it was a solo-vehicle crash, according to the website.

The CHP is reporting the roadway was back open at 7:28 a.m.
