Man runs from police in downtown San Luis Obispo

San Luis Obispo Police are canvassing backyards near downtown to find a suspect who fled on foot on Toro Street around 1:45 p.m., according to dispatches heard on the police scanner.

Police pulled over a man who was driving recklessly, and he ran away, said Lt. Jeff Smith. The suspect is possible under the influence of controlled narcotics, and may have two felony warrants, Smith said, though he could not confirm what the warrants were for.

The man is not believed to be armed.

Smith could specify what area is being searched, though the general area is near Johnson and Mill Streets in the residential area just north of downtown San Luis Obispo.

The Sheriff’s Office is assisting with a canine unit.
