A 28-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of first-degree burglary, a felony, after an Arroyo Grande resident told police he returned home, spotted a broken window and heard someone inside his garage.
Amelia Paulina Ramirez was also arrested on suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor vandalism. She remained in San Luis Obispo County Jail on Tuesday in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Police received a call about 11:10 a.m. about a possible burglary in progress in the 600 block of Del Sol Street, according to a news release. The resident, identified as Robert Cochran, told dispatchers he came home and saw that a window in his detached garage had been broken.
As officers arrived, Fairgrove Elementary School located next to the home was placed on lockdown for about 15 minutes because some special education students were attending a summer school program at the time.
Lucia Mar district spokeswoman Amy Jacobs said 59 students and 26 staff members were at the school during the lockdown, which lasted from 11:30 to 11:45 a.m.
Police officers detained Ramirez after she voluntarily exited the garage thorough a side door, Cmdr. Beau Pryor said. The resident told officers that he didnt know Ramirez and didnt give her permission to enter his garage.
