Cal State Monterey Bay announced Monday it has hired Cal Poly Associate Head Coach Kerri Nakamoto as its new women’s basketball head coach.

Nakamoto replaces Renee Jimenez, who left for Cal State San Bernardino.

“I’m extremely excited to join the Cal State Monterey Bay family,” Nakamoto said in a news release. “I give special thanks to Dr. Ronnie Higgs and the search committee. Every person I met on campus seemed to love the experience of being there, and that really helps make it feel like the right fit for me.”

Nakamoto spent the past eight seasons helping turn Cal Poly into a perennial Big West Conference title contender, including last season’s conference tournament championship and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
