Letter to the Editor

Every time I see an article about Bubble Gum Alley, it upsets me. Why is it that people think Bubble Gum Alley is something that we want San Luis Obispo to be noted for? We have so much more to offer. For every article mentioning Bubble Gum Alley, why can’t we have an article on a real accomplishment of the city?

One noted accomplishment is the fact that San Luis Obispo was the first city in the world to pass an ordinance prohibiting smoking in public areas. This ordinance was written by Jerry M. Reiss, member of the San Luis Obispo City Council in 1990. That is something we should be known for and proud of.

This accomplishment is finally getting some recognition in a recent Huffington Post article, which described the importance of nonsmoking areas and the lives saved.

The Tribune is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. Some of the comments may be reprinted elsewhere in the site or in the newspaper. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
