Painful for pets

Paso RoblesJune 24, 2013

A recent letter writer reminded dog owners that it is inhumane and a cause of suffering for a dog to be left in a hot car while the owner goes shopping in an air-conditioned store. I once nearly killed my beloved dog by doing that.

Another painful thing people do to their pets is to take them walking on hot pavement. I suggest putting your bare foot or hand on that cement or blacktop to get a feel for what your dog is experiencing.

These are little acts of consideration, but they may save your dog pain and suffering. Of course your dog wants to go for a ride in the car or for a walk with you, but he/she is not able to remember how hot pavement and cars get in the summertime. Remember that your dog has to wear a fur coat and walk on bare feet.

A little consideration is an act of love for your dog, even when it means watching his distress at being left behind when you drive away.
