A summer prayer

Paso RoblesJune 20, 2013

Thank you, Tribune, for the excellent in-depth reporting on the water crisis. I have lived in this area for many years and can remember the beautiful oak trees dotted with grape vines. Now, as you look around, you see miles of vines dotted with a tree. Yesterday, I drove east along Union Road and was sickened to see acres of new plantings. I don’t know yet who the growers are, but any east county winery that continues to plant new vines is not being a responsible steward of the land.

I enjoy wine and have always bought local; however, if the wineries don’t care about us locals, I think I have bought my last bottle. Supervisors, vote on the right side of Paso history. Stop planting and curtail building. Another option available would be trucking in their water, as my friend had to do. On our country road, four properties have had to dig new wells.

So once again, I say my summer prayer: Please, Lord, get us through one more summer.
