San Simeon Community Services District directors on June 6 chose Kaushik “Ken” Patel to replace Dee Dee Ricci, who resigned May 15 due to her health.

The vote for Patel was 4-0. The only other applicant was former district director Bob McLaughlin, who serves as San Simeon’s representative on the North Coast Advisory Council.

Patel will serve out the nearly two years remaining on Ricci’s term.

The owner and manager of Quality Inn in San Simeon is on the district Water Committee and is a member of and treasurer for the San Simeon Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. He was appointed by the county board of supervisors as a director of the San Simeon Tourism Alliance.

He also has served as a director of the Asian American Hotel Association, the Ukiah Chamber of Commerce and the Mendocino County Lodging Association.

In his June 3 application to the district, Patel said he’d bring a “unique perspective to the decisions the board faces,” because he’s a San Simeon resident and a member of the business community. “I wish to support the board’s current direction and provide for the financial viability and operational compliance that they have been able to achieve to date.”
