No for Spanish Springs

Arroyo GrandeJune 16, 2013

On (Tuesday) June 18, the matter of the Spanish Springs development will come (once again) before the Pismo Beach City Council. By now, the council should realize that lack of water should doom this development forever and vote no.

More and more land that once was used for grazing cattle and growing a crop that solely utilized rainwater has been turned into water-needy developments and growing wine grapes. Spanish Springs land has been all cattle grazing with the only water demand being for stock tanks. That’s how it should stay!

When are our political leaders going to say stop and enough is enough? Our county is running out of existing groundwater and even now is bringing water in through underground pipes to provide the current users. The courts have denied a project for development due to lack of water on property near Spanish Springs land. Why should Spanish Springs be approved? It shouldn’t!
