Life is but a dream: Open house for SLO rowers

Members of the San Luis Obispo Rowing Club are celebrating the group’s 10th anniversary this weekend with an open house at Santa Margarita Lake.

The group, which has grown from a handful of founders to about 50 members today, maintains a fleet of single, double and four-seat rowing boats, which it keeps at a remodeled boathouse at the lake. Over the years, members built boat racks and two docks to enable rowing all year round. From April to September, the club offers beginning rowing classes.

“Rowing is a fun, low-impact sport for all ages that anyone can learn to do,” club President Marty Hawke said. “Most of our members have never rowed before taking one of our rowing courses. Plus, there is just no nicer place to row than Santa Margarita Lake.”

The open house runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Santa Margarita Lake boathouse. For more information about the club, visit
