A parolee from Arkansas thought to be armed and dangerous and another man were arrested Saturday after the stolen van they were riding in was pulled over in Cambria.

The Sheriff’s Office received information that the men were in the area, Sheriff’s Office representative Tony Cipolla said Monday. A deputy spotted Joseph Sean Anthony Porter, 20, in a van at about 3:30 p.m. After learning the van was reported stolen in Arkansas, the deputy called for backup.

Other deputies and State Parks rangers, along with Cal Fire personnel, backed up the deputy. The arrests were made without incident in the 900 block of Main Street in Cambria’s West Village. No weapons were found.

Richard Thomas Crawford Jr., 39, and Porter were booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of felony auto theft, where they remained in custody Monday. Bail was set at $20,000.
