SLO Museum of Art to spotlight Cuesta

June 6, 2013

A collection of prints from Cuesta College student printmakers dating back two decades will be on display in the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art’s McMeen Gallery from Friday through June 30. The theme this year is a retrospective look at Cuesta College in celebration of its 50th anniversary.

The juried exhibition, titled “The Proof Is in the Prints: A Retrospective Exhibition of Cuesta College Student Etchings 1992-2013,” is sponsored by the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art and Central Coast Printmakers.

“Studying etching allows students to immerse themselves in a creative practice that requires deep mastery and exists in a kind of slow time. Neither is common in our mediated, digitalized world,” art program associate faculty member Leslie Sutcliffe said. “It is my hope that this exhibition gives the viewer a feeling for the breadth and depth of the printmaking program at Cuesta College over the years.”

A reception and opportunity to meet members of the printmakers group will be held at the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art, 1010 Broad St., from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday.
