San Luis Obispo Blues double-up North County Indians for 8-4 victory

The San Luis Obispo Blues defeated the North County Indians 8-4 in a summer collegiate baseball game Friday at SLO Stadium. 

The Blues (5-0) were able to capitalize on the Indians early, chasing former Templeton High standout Evan Peterson after 3 2⁄3 innings pitched. 

San Luis Obispo scored two runs in the first, one run in the second, added a two-run fourth inning and a one-run sixth inning. The Blues then tacked on two more in the eighth to cap their scoring.

The Blues’ Nick Pinto got the win. He pitched five innings and gave up one run on two hits with four walks and three strikeouts.

Offensively, Daniel Garner led San Luis Obispo, going 2 for 3 with two runs and a home run. Leo Vargas went 2 for 4 with two RBI and a home run as well. Andrew Lee went 1 for 3 with a triple.

Former Atascadero High standout Brent Poulin led the Indians offensively. He went 2 for 4 with an RBI. 

Peterson gave up five runs on five hits with three walks and four strikeouts.

The Blues have won five consecutive games to start the season and have outscored opponents 44-14. The game was North County’s season opener.
