Season ends for San Luis Obispo High doubles team

San Luis Obispo High’s boys doubles team of Mason Hansen and Josh Milla concluded their season with a two-set loss Thursday in the round of 32 at the CIF-Southern Section Division 3 individual championships in Whittier.

The Tigers’ duo lost 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) to Lyndon Bui and Derik Nguyen of Canyon. Hansen and Milla had won three previous matches, including defeating a top-ranked doubles team from Santa Barbara, before their season ended.

“They had a great run,” Tigers coach Ken Peet said. “It was an incredible season. We didn’t want it to end.”

Peet said the team from Anaheim took advantage of unforced errors and some early nerves. But Hansen and Milla responded well in the second set.

“They didn’t have their mojo in the first set,” Peet said. “I really think if they would have won the second set, they would have won the match. They started to play much better. But it was a great year.”
