A Compton man was arrested in Paso Robles on Wednesday after detectives found drugs in his pockets and hidden in his car, police said.

The Paso Robles Police Department learned from the Pismo Beach Police Department that Esteban Ortiz, 33, might be staying at a Paso Robles hotel and might have drugs for sale, according to a news release from Paso Robles police.

Detectives with the Paso Robles Police Department Special Enforcement Team confirmed Ortiz was on parole and had a warrant for his arrest. They tracked Ortiz to a hotel near Buena Vista Drive and Highway 46 in Paso Robles, where they found him walking in the parking lot and arrested him.

While searching Ortiz, detectives found methamphetamine and marijuana in his pockets, according to the news release. A police K-9 alerted officers that more drugs were possibly hidden inside his car. Detectives searched the vehicle and found methamphetamine and heroin in hidden compartments.

Detectives seized 38.8 grams of methamphetamine, 52.7 grams of tar heroin, a small amount of liquid heroin, 6.8 grams of marijuana and nearly $3,000, according to the news release.

Ortiz was arrested on suspicion of possessing narcotics for sale and parole violations, and booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail in lieu of $30,000 bail.
