Letter to the Editor

Thanks for inspiring

Program directorMay 25, 2013

Mentors inspire young people to stay in school, believe in themselves and live up to their potential. The Big Brothers Big Sisters’ School-Based Mentoring Program allows high school Big Brothers and Sisters to inspire elementary school Little Brothers and Sisters. For one hour each week the pairs meet to develop school engagement, self-esteem and improve peer relationships through one-to-one mentoring.

As the school year comes to a close, and the Bigs and Littles celebrate their relationships, I would like to take a moment to express my appreciation for the accommodations and support provided by our project partners: San Luis Obispo, Morro Bay and Nipomo high schools, Sinsheimer, Del Mar and Nipomo elementary schools, as well as the various after-school programs associated with each. Our mentoring program comes at no cost to schools, thanks to funding provided by The Harold J. Miossi Charitable Trust, PG&E, The Robert H. Janssen Foundation and United Way of San Luis Obispo County. With the support of these amazing organizations, Big Brothers Big Sisters will continue to positively impact the lives of hundreds of schoolchildren throughout the Central Coast.
