Deeds and creeds

NipomoMay 23, 2013

Requests to put God back into our schools, and into society in general, seem to forget that God works through people like us. Deeds should reflect creeds — setting aside, for the moment, the particular ways of the God known to each of us in a multi-religion world.

Teachers have opportunities, not to preach, but to demonstrate by example the caring and even proper love for their students, who need it to learn to relate the same way to others. And so do we, every day, as we interact with friends and strangers. Do you really ask yourself what your God would do in response to each opportunity?

To cut to the chase, how about practicing the golden rule? True, it doesn’t mention any particular religion, but surely your God would approve of it. What have you got to lose?
