Shamel Park pool opens Saturday

The pool at Shamel Park opens Memorial Day weekend and splashes on through Labor Day. The county recreation department offers swim lessons, recreation activities and opportunities to become involved in the Junior Lifeguards at 5455 Windsor Blvd., Cambria.

Starting Saturday, May 25, the pool is open for recreation from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through Sept. 2. It will also be open those hours on Monday, May 27, Memorial Day; and Monday, Sept. 2, Labor Day.

Starting June 25, the days will extend to include Tuesdays through Fridays until Aug. 16. On Mondays the pool will be closed for maintenance, except for May 27 and Sept. 2.

Pool fees for kids 17 and under are $2.25; adults are $4.50.

Registration for swim lessons begins Saturday, June 1. Half-hour group lessons are held Tuesdays through Fridays for two weeks. Lessons are available from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for $48 per person. The first session runs June 25 to July 5 (with a day off on July 4) and the second from July 16 to 26.

Private or semi-private lessons last for one week. These lessons are also 30 minutes long, Tuesday through Friday. Private lessons are $79; semi-private (two people) costs $45 per person. Sessions run from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. July 9 through 12, July 30 though Aug. 2, and Aug. 6 through 9.
