District honors retiring teachers

North Coast parents, residents, educators and others are to come together twice in nine days to honor some retiring teachers and the lay citizen, classified member and teacher of the year for Coast Unified School District.

At the district Board of Trustees meeting tonight, May 23, honorees are to include: Teacher of the Year Sally DiMaggio; Classified Member of the Year Patti Stroh; Lay Citizen of the Year Chris Milbrath; and retiring teachers Teresa Amberg (district speech therapist), April Benham (intervention teacher), DiMaggio (kindergarten), Steve Dunn (high school social science) and Kit Hansen (middle school social science).

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Old Grammar School, 1350 Main St.

The Cambria Education Foundation’s 10th annual Celebration of Education is set for 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, May 31, at Fog’s End, 2735 Main St. It will include “The Taste of Cambria,” an array of appetizers and wines from Cambria restaurants and wineries countywide, and a celebration of the contribution of the retiring teachers over 144 years of cumulative educational experience.
