UPDATE 10:58 a.m.: The woman who was hit by a train in Pismo Beach on Wednesday night was attempting to cross the railroad tracks when she was struck, according to the Pismo Beach Police Department.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of her injuries, police said.

There were no signs of foul play, but the investigation is ongoing. Police also said she has been identified, but her name will not be released at this time.

Original story: The body of a woman struck by a train was found late Wednesday, according to the Pismo Beach Police Department.

Authorities are still trying to identify the woman, whom they describe as being between the ages of 50 and 60 years old.

The call first came into the Grover Beach Police Department, but after an initial search didn’t locate a body, authorities reviewed statements from the train’s engineer and discovered that incident occurred in Pismo Beach, Cmdr. Jake Miller said.

Authorities there then found the woman around 9:30 p.m. just south of Frady Lane near the tracks under the Highway 101 overpass. The area didn't have a formal crossing, Miller said.

The train is described as a cargo train with approximately 95 cars, Miller said. Additional details on the train or its engineer weren't immediately available.

Authorities cleared the scene at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday.
