A 21-year-old San Luis Obispo motorcyclist sustained major injuries to his leg Monday after being struck by one vehicle and thrown into another, according to police.

Philip Jones was riding west on Foothill Boulevard past the Mustang Village apartment complex at 4:50 p.m. as the driver of an eastbound SUV prepared to make a left turn into the complex, according to Sgt. Chad Pfarr of the San Luis Obispo Police Department.

The driver, identified by police as an 18-year-old San Luis Obispo woman, failed to see Jones and turned left, striking him and his motorcycle, Pfarr said.

Jones was then thrown into another vehicle that had stopped and was waiting to enter Foothill from Mustang Village, police said.

According to Pfarr, Jones was transported to a local hospital with significant trauma to his leg. The injury did not appear to be life threatening, police said, and no other injuries were reported as a result of collision.

Pfarr said the alcohol and drugs do not appear to be facts in the collision, which does not appear to be criminal in nature.
