Cooks second in heptathlon at state track meet for Cuesta

Cuesta College’s Riley Cooks set a school record in the heptathlon when she finished second at the CCCAA Track and Field Championships in San Mateo on Saturday.

Cooks finished with 4,704 points, just over 200 points behind Alexis Dalton of Cerritos, who won with 5,129 points.

Cooks won the 200 meters in 25.27 seconds, and finished third in the 100 hurdles in 15.08.

Josiah Becker set a personal record for the Cougars when he placed third in the men’s pole vault at 15 feet, 8 1⁄2 inches.

Paso Robles High graduate Lauren Silacci placed seventh in the women’s 3,000 steeplechase in 11:39.37, and Jessica Armes finished seventh in the 800 in 2:20.53 for Cuesta.

The Cougars women placed 20th in the meet with 12 points, while the men placed 24th with nine points. 

Cerritos won the women’s championship with 91 points, and Riverside won the men’s with 151.
