Cal Poly track and field athletes John Prader and Laura Hollander were honored by the Big West Conference on Wednesday.

Prader, a senior, was named the men’s Field Athlete of the Year. Earlier this season, Prader broke school record in the pole vault with a clearance of 18 feet, 7 1⁄4 inches, ranking third in the NCAA.

At the Big West Conference Championships last weekend, Prader won his second straight pole vault title.

Hollander won the women’s Freshman of the Year award. She broke the conference record in the 5,000 meters earlier this season when she ran 15 minutes, 53.73 seconds at the Mt. SAC Relays. That time is the 20th-fastest time in the NCAA this year.

At the Big West meet, Hollander easily won the 5,000 in 16:25.62, more than 49 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
