An officer with the Atascadero Police Department went to a local hospital Wednesday complaining of pain after being involved in a three-vehicle collision in south Atascadero, police said.

The officer was on patrol in his marked police car when the incident occurred just before noon on El Camino Real and Viejo Camino near Paloma Creek Park.

The driver of a second vehicle also complained of pain and was taken to a local hospital via ambulance, while the officer went to the hospital on his own, police spokesman Sgt. Gregg Meyer said. The driver and passenger in the third vehicle didn’t report injuries.

Meyer, who wasn't at the scene, wasn’t sure which vehicle belonged to the injured party but said aside from the patrol car, the incident involved a Suburban and Chevy Traverse.

No names were released because it’s an open investigation with Atascadero police and the CHP, Meyer said.

No other details were immediately available.
