A man fell and broke both his legs about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Salmon Creek Falls, a popular hiking trail off Highway 1 about two miles north of the San Luis Obispo County line.

Cal Fire Information Officer Tina Rose said firefighters will place the man on a litter, also known as a “stokes basket,” and hike him out to Highway 1, where he’ll be put into an ambulance and taken to Ragged Point.

There, a CHP helicopter will transport him to a hospital for treatment.

She said about 25 firefighters and other emergency personnel, including CHP, Cal Fire and Los Padres firefighters with the U.S. Forest Service, responded.
