Pirates advance to Thursday’s first round with the win

The Morro Bay High softball team won its CIF-Southern Section Division 5 wild-card game Tuesday in a slugfest, outlasting Ramona Convent 20-12 in Alhambra.

Fallon Molnar was 3 for 5 with four runs, and four RBI, including a three-run home run in the second inning as the Pirates jumped out to 15-2 lead.

Marissa Tabares was 3 for 3 with three runs and two RBI, and Carly Watt was 3 for 6 with four runs for Morro Bay, which scored eight runs in the second inning.

The Pirates will travel to take on Savanna of Anaheim, the No. 1 team from the Orange Conference, on Thursday at 3:15 p.m.

Peninsula 13, Arroyo Grande 0, 5 innings

The Eagles were held to just one hit, a fourth-inning single by Adriana Ranjel, and yielded an eight-

run first inning in their Division 3 wild card-round loss.

Arroyo Grande finishes the year with an 11-15 record.

Providence at Coastal Christian

BASEBALL

Burroughs 7, San Luis Obispo 3

The Tigers committed four errors, allowing three unearned runs in a 

Division 2 wild-card round loss.

Joey Benadiba was 2 for 3 with an RBI, Jeremy Jeff had an RBI double, and Garrett Giovannelli had a double and a run scored for San Luis Obispo (15-13).

Sinjin Todd pitched well in relief for the Tigers, giving up two runs — none earned — on three hits and striking out two in 2 2⁄3 innings.
