Kite festival soars

Morro BayMay 13, 2013

The seventh annual Morro Bay Kite Festival was a huge success. It brought 3,000 people together for a weekend of family fun. As chairman of the Morro Bay Kite Festival committee, I want to thank the wonderful folks who made it all possible.

A dedicated group of volunteers put in endless hours, with help from the Morro Bay Tourism Bureau, Chamber of Commerce and city, and police and harbor staff. Central Coast Funds for Children provided free kites for 500 kids. Sponsorship came from: Morro Bay Furniture, Beach Bungalow Inn & Suites, Best Western El Rancho, Best Western San Marcos, Breakers Motel, Morro Bay Aquarium, El Morro Masterpiece Motel, Embarcadero Inn, Frankie & Lola’s Front Street Cafe, La Serena Inn, Morro Bay House of Jerky, Morro Dunes RV Park, Off the Hook Seafood Grill & Sushi Bar, STAX Wine Bar, Giovanni’s Fish Market, Richard Anderegg, Jeff Eckles and Zorus and Judy Colglazier.

Professional kite fliers who perform at numerous festivals tell me this is their favorite. Why? A beautiful beach, excellent wind, and the warm welcome they receive from the people of Morro Bay.

Plans are already underway for next year. Mark your calendar for April 26-27, 2014, and watch our website, http://www.morrobaykitefestival.org.
