Prep Roundup: Paso Robles wins PAC 7 softball finale

The Paso Robles High softball team finished its regular season with an 8-4 victory over St. Joseph on Thursday.

The Bearcats move on to the CIF-Southern Section Division 3 playoffs next week.

Paso Robles’ Megan Clark was 3 for 4 with a single, a double, a triple and four RBI.

Jenna Rogers was 3 for 4 with a double and two RBI, and Jenna Wookey pitched five innings for the win for the Bearcats. Wookey struck out four, walked three and gave up five hits for Paso Robles (15-9, 9-3 PAC 7).

Righetti 3, San Luis Obispo 1

Erica Chandler had a triple in the bottom of the first inning and was driven in by Haley Rich for the Tigers’ only run.

San Luis Obispo maintained the 1-0 lead until there were two out in the top of the seventh, when the Warriors struck for all of their runs.

Andrea Reynolds struck out eight and gave up nine hits in seven innings for the Tigers (14-13, 4-8 PAC 7) in their regular-season finale. 

Pioneer Valley 3, Atascadero 1

Kaila Herzig had a double, and McKenzi Etchison had an RBI in the Greyhounds’ loss (6-18, 4-7 PAC 7). 

Coast Union 27, North County Christian 0, 5 innings

Sage Radecki was 2 for 3 with a three-run homer and five RBI for the Broncos as they secured the Coast Valley League championship.

Coast Union’s Ellie Magnuson pitched five innings, striking out 11 and allowing two hits.

Bailey Clarke was 3 for 3 with four runs and two RBI, and Cristina Plascentia was 3 for 5 with two, three-run triples and six RBI for the Broncos (15-4, 10-0 CVL).

Karianne Loy hit a double for North County Christian (1-17, 1-9 CVL).

Coastal Christian 31, Cuyama Valley 8; 5 innings

Roni Garrison (7-6) pitched all five innings, striking out seven. 

Garrison was also 4 for 5 with two doubles and eight RBI for the Conquerors.

Isabelle Unger was 3 for 3 with a triple and five RBI, and Hannah Brennan had five RBI as well for Coastal Christian (7-6, 6-4 CVL).

Every Coastal Christian player had at least one hit and one run. 


CIF-Southern Section Division 3 Finals

Nipomo’s Austin Simpson was ninth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5 minutes, 4.21 seconds in Riverside.

Simpson also placed 18th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:07.10.


CIF-Southern Section State Team Qualifier

Arroyo Grande finished its season placing 16th in the qualifier at Mission Lakes Country Club in Desert Hot Springs.

The Eagles finished with a team score of 399. Oaks Christian came in first place with 371.

Mitch Martin shot a 4-over 75 for Arroyo Grande. Martin will continue his high school career competing in the CIF-Southern Section Northern Regional Playoffs on Monday. 

Conner Sandman shot 79, Tristen Bergmann-Lagano shot 81, and Josh Schneider and Cobe Williams both shot 82 for the Eagles. 


Mission Prep 9, Dunn 3

Joey Hall was 2 for 5 with a home run for the Royals (15-5).

Mission Prep’s Connor Fox was 2 for 4 with a double, and struck out 10 in 6 1⁄3 innings in the win.

Joey Hall, Trevor Fernandez and Calvin Levisay each all two hits for the Royals.
