Charles Haig Guenther, 36, surrendered to a sheriffs SWAT team that arrived at his Los Osos home Tuesday. The SWAT team arrived after Guenthers wife drove herself to the hospital, saying Guenther had attacked her with a sword and threatened her with a pistol.
The victim, whose name has not been released, suffered injuries to her hands, legs and abdomen while fending off the assault, according to the Sheriffs Office.
Guenther was initially charged with assault with a deadly weapon and inflicting corporal injury on a spouse. But the District Attorneys Office added more charges, including aggravated mayhem, assault with a deadly weapon, inflicting corporal injury on a spouse and making terrorist threats. Numerous enhancements were also filed, including committing a crime resulting in great bodily injury and committing a crime with a deadly weapon.
Guenther remains in San Luis Obispo County Jail in lieu of $750,000 bail.
