Can you hear me now? Cambria call boxes fixed

ssullivan@thetribunenews.comMay 9, 2013

Two emergency call boxes along Highway 1 south of Cambria are back in service.

Above, one of the call boxes, this one between Monte Cristo Place and Ardath Drive, is covered with a bag on April 27.The other out-of-order box was just south of Highway 46.

There was nothing wrong with the boxes themselves, according to San Luis Obispo Council of Government transportation planner Tim Gilham. The issue was “on AT&T’s part,” he said.

The cell tower was not connecting with the boxes, therefore they were not receiving cell service. AT&T has been having cell issues in the area, Gilham said.

Gilham, who got the information from the maintenance sub-contractor, said AT&T was to send technicians to the cell tower on Friday, May 3.Gilham said Monday, May 6, the issue has been fixed, the bags are off and they are once again “up and running.”
