Dee Dee Ricci has resigned from the San Simeon Community Services District Board of Directors, effective May 15, due to health reasons. In her letter of resignation, submitted last week to the board, the district and the community, the board chairwoman asked for privacy.
The board, which delayed its monthly meeting to May 15 to avoid scheduling clashes, is to discuss appointing a new board member to fill out the nearly two-year balance of Ricci’s term, approve having Vice Chairman Ralph McAdams take the chairmanship, and consider appointing a new vice chairman.
Ricci had been a fixture at the board meetings for almost two decades, attending regularly as a community member when she wasn’t on the board. She served a total of about 10 years, from 1993 to 1996 and from 2006 to the present. She also served for a time on the water committee.
She is known for her warm smile, big heart, being “the mom” on the board and her bulldog determination to get things accomplished in her tiny community. Ricci has battled through and prevailed over health challenges in the past.
Bob McLaughlin, who serves on the North Coast Advisory Council representing San Simeon and is a former services-district director for the town, has known Ricci and her husband, Alfred Ricci, for a long time. He called them “great people.” While McLaughlin and Dee Dee Ricci frequently had differing opinions about some key San Simeon issues, he said she has always done “a fine job” for the community and would be missed on the board.
