Rain expected throughout the county Monday

Conditions are also favorable for thunderstorms

Rain is expected and thunderstorms are possible early this week across San Luis Obispo County.

Scattered rain showers are expected today and tomorrow throughout the county, as a low-pressure system about 100 miles northwest of San Luis Obispo moves southward and slowly down the California coast over the next 36 hours, drawing moisture from the south, according to a recent news release by PG&E meteorologist John Lindsey.

This low-pressure system will also create a favorable environment for thunderstorm development today into Tuesday across much of the Central Coast. The biggest threat from these storms is dry lightning; localized gusty outflow winds; and the potential for new fire starts, because surface fuels remain extremely dry.

After the system exits Wednesday, temperatures will rise through the week and weekend.
