May is Bike Month in San Luis Obispo County.

Hosted by SLO Regional Rideshare, the program features more than 50 free events intended to get people on their bikes for fun, fitness or transportation. “Thanks to a dedicated host of volunteers, we enjoy one of the largest Bike Month celebrations in the country, right here in SLO County,” said Stephanie Hicks, program manager of SLO Regional Rideshare, in a recent news release.

One event, the iRide Community Bike Challenge, is an online competition to log miles ridden. Other notable events include the return of Kidical Mass in San Luis Obispo, as well as Bike Fest in Arroyo Grande, the Tweed Ride in San Luis Obispo, Cote de Tolosa in Edna Valley, and Pedal to Paella in Santa Margarita.

May 13-17 is Bike-to-Work Week, and Wednesday is Bike-to-School Day.
