Mustangs drop softball series to UC Riverside

The Cal Poly softball team rallied to tie the score with two runs in the third inning but ended up leaving 10 runners on base in a 3-2 loss to UC Riverside on Sunday.

The Highlanders won the series, the first time the Mustangs have dropped a series at UC Riverside since 2003.

The Mustangs had 12 hits, led by three hits apiece by Ashley Romano and Mariah Cochiolo, who had an RBI. Emily Ceccacci was 2 for 4 with an RBI, and Cami Brown was 2 for 3 for Cal Poly (19-31-1, 8-13 Big West).

Jordan Yates allowed a run in three innings of relief and took the loss.

Natalie Sanchez hit a solo homer and had the game-winning RBI on a double in the sixth inning for Long Beach State (19-30, 3-15 Big West).
