Squeeze play gives Nipomo a walk-off win over Lompoc in softball

With Nipomo High’s softball team locked in a 2-2 tie with Lompoc in the bottom of the seventh, the Titans’ Candace Fryckman squared up to bunt.

With a runner on third, Fryckman made contact and successfully pulled off a suicide squeeze to help Nipomo walk off with a 3-2 win Friday.

Courtney Cuzick pitched seven innings in the win, giving up two runs on three hits to go with 17 strikeouts.

Saundra Renner went 2 for 3 with an RBI, and Gianna Abatti went 1 for 3 with an RBI and a double for Nipomo (16-3, 8-1 Los Padres League).

Atascadero 3, Paso Robles 2, 8 innings

Chandler Haskell scored on a walk-off single from MacKenzie Messina with two out in the eighth inning to lift the Greyhounds past the second-place Bearcats.

Nique Mack was 3 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI, and Jessica Rouse
was 2 for 4 with a double for Atascadero (4-17, 3-5 PAC 7).

Kaala Wood pitched a complete game for the Greyhounds, scattering six hits, allowing two unearned runs and walking none over eight innings.

Monica Garcia was 2 for 3 with one RBI for the Bearcats (12-8, 6-3 PAC 7).

Paso Robles’ Jenna Rogers pitched a complete game, striking out two and walking one.

Pioneer Valley 3, Arroyo Grande 1

Charlette Yracheta was 2 for 3, and Zephora Caudill had one RBI for the Eagles (3-6, 8-13 PAC 7) in the win.

Pitcher Rebecca Hernandez pitched a complete game and gave up three hits, with one walk and one strikeout.

Templeton 5, Orcutt Academy 0

Ashley Stevens was 3 for 4 with a double and two runs in the Eagles’ shutout.

Stevens got the win for Templeton (9-13, 4-4 LPL), pitching six innings, giving up one hit, walking three and striking out four.

Kiani Alba was 2 for 4 with one run, Corinne Barto was 2 for 4, and Ashanti Alba was 2 for 4 with two RBI and one run scored.

Valley Christian 24, North County Christian 4

Liz Crespo was 3 for 3, scored three runs and had four stolen bases in four attempts in the Crusaders’ loss.

Hailee DeVries scored one run and had one RBI for North County Christian (0-14, 0-7 Coast Valley League).

Morro Bay 4, Santa Ynez 2

Marissa Tabares gave up two runs on five hits and struck out six in a complete game win for the Pirates.

Tabares was 1 for 3 at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI, and Kaytee Lankford was 2 for 3 with a run scored for Morro Bay (9-11, 2-3 LPL).
