Cal Poly tennis: Mustangs advance in men's Big West tourney

Andre Dome swept 6-0, 6-2, and Jordan Bridge swept 6-3, 6-0 in singles for Cal Poly (14-8) as the Mustangs downed UC Riverside 4-0 in the first round of the Big West Conference championships in Indian Wells on Thursday.

The Mustangs will play Pacific in today’s semifinals.

The Cal Poly doubles team of Dome and Bridge picked up an 8-2 win over UC Riverside’s Jimmy Roberts and Marcus Vizcarra. 

Gannon Daynes and Naveen Beasley also won 8-5 in doubles play, and Beasley won 6-0, 6-1 in singles.


Pacific 4, Cal Poly 1

The doubles team of Jen Cornea and Gabrielle Gatewood opened the day by beating the Tigers’ Susan Te and Gergana Boncheva 8-3, but Cal Poly couldn’t move past the Pacific in the Big West Conference championships in Indian Wells as the Mustangs’ season ended.

Kathryn Webb and Haley Kelper secured the doubles point for Cal Poly (4-18), downing Regina Suarez and Christiana Ferrari 8-5.
