At FarmFest on the Coast, meet the people who make your food

The San Luis Obispo Wine Country Association is prepping for FarmFest on the Coast, a new event where attendees can “shake the hand that feeds you,” organizers say.

At the Friday showcase of local food and wine producers, “tasting stations” will be set up with food in its raw and prepared forms, and dishes will be paired with wines. The event aims to emphasize learning where food comes from.

Dozens of mostly San Luis Obispo and South County farmers, ranchers, fisheries, cheese makers, chefs, restaurants and wineries are lined up to take part. Cal Poly’s wine and viticulture program, Farm Supply and others are scheduled to give demonstrations on agriculture and sustainability.

The event will be from 4 to 7 p.m. at Dinosaur Caves Park in Pismo Beach. Organizers expect about 300 attendees. About 50 FarmFest tickets were still available Thursday afternoon.

Tickets are $40 each. Discounts are available if purchasers also buy tickets for the Pismo Beach Chamber of Commerce’s Taste of Pismo on Saturday.
