Letter to the Editor

Accomplished leader

San Luis ObispoApril 22, 2013

With the passing of the first female Prime Minister of England, Margaret (Baroness, Iron Lady, Maggie, Ronnie’s Churchill) Thatcher, we are continuously reminded that she was a “grocer’s daughter.”

No one seems to know that she was a graduate of Oxford University with a degree of Bachelor of Science in chemistry and, along with a group of scientists, developed the method for production of soft ice cream, which was and is extremely popular all over the world. As Maureen Dowd said, “She handled the global boys club deftly — as little boys when they needed it or as swains when she needed it.”

The Tribune is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
