Benefit of the doubt

OceanoApril 21, 2013

I was both shocked and saddened to read in the April 17 Tribune that Tom Geaslen, general manager of the Oceano CSD, was fired with cause.

In my eyes, Mr. Geaslen has earned the benefit of any doubts and a second-chance consideration, based on the work he has accomplished during the last two years for the OCSD and the Oceano community. He brought the OCSD out of the quagmire created by the previous general manager, who was merely dismissed without cause.

Based on work performance alone, I should think Tom merits severance, at least. Even board member Matthew Guerrero said, “We’ve come a long way in the last two years.”

Tom Geaslen was an integral part of that success. In the last two years, Tom and the board have done a good job of bringing financial accountability, OCSD management, and integrity back from the brink of destruction of the previous years.
