Prep Roundup: Garretson pitches Templeton baseball team past Morro Bay

Templeton’s win puts it alone atop the Los Padres League baseball standings

Andy Garretson threw six shutout innings, scattering four hits and striking out five in a 5-0 win for the Templeton High baseball team at Morro Bay on Friday.

Garretson also contributed at the plate, going 2 for 4 with the go-ahead RBI on a double in the third inning.

Mitchell Pendley struck out two in a scoreless seventh inning to pick up the save for the Eagles (13-2, 6-1), who are alone atop the Los Padres League standings after Lompoc fell 2-1 to Santa Ynez on Friday.

Justin Syracuse added two hits and a run for Templeton.

Colt Caravalho was 2 for 3 for the Pirates (7-14, 2-5 LPL).

San Luis Obispo 5, St. Joseph 0

Sinjin Todd tossed a six-hit shutout, striking out four and walking two for the Tigers in the road win.

R.J. Hassey was 2 for 3 with a double, a home run, two RBI and a run for San Luis Obispo (11-10, 8-4 PAC 7).

Joey Benadiba and Jeremy Jeff each added an RBI for the Tigers.

Paso Robles 7, Pioneer Valley 5

Lazoch Ford hit a three-run home run in the third to help the Bearcats down the Panthers.

Ford went 2 for 4 with a run and four RBI, and Kris Pequeno went 1 for 3 with an RBI, two runs and a home run in the second inning. 

Jonathan Baldwin also went 3 for 4 for Paso Robles (5-12, 1-8 PAC 7).


Pioneer Valley 4, San Luis Obispo 3, 10 innings

In the top of the ninth inning, the Tigers’ Lauren Guaspari scored on a fielder’s choice by Erica Chandler to break a 2-2 tie.

Pioneer Valley tied it again with a run in the bottom of the ninth. 

With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, San Luis Obispo’s center fielder Samantha Good threw out a runner at home plate to keep the score tied.

Alexis Spence was 2 for 4 with two RBI, Hailey Rich had two runs, and Chandler had an RBI for San Luis Obispo (13-9, 3-4 PAC 7).

Andrea Reynolds pitched 10 innings, giving up 12 hits, walking none and striking out eight for the Tigers.

Righetti 3, Paso Robles 1

Jenna Rogers pitched a complete game, giving up three runs on six hits and striking out five in the loss.

Delaney Cline and Chloe Kerns each had a hit for the Bearcats (11-8, 5-2 PAC 7).

St. Joseph 9, Arroyo Grande 8, 8 innings

Jordan Robinson went 3 for 3 with three RBI as the Eagles (7-10, 3-4 PAC 7) lost to the Knights.

Nipomo 6, Santa Maria 4

Courtney Cuzick pitched seven innings, giving up four runs on seven hits and striking out 14 against the Saints.

She also went 2 for 3 with two runs, a double and a triple. 

Ashley Ruiz also went 2 for 2 with two RBI for Nipomo (14-3, 6-1 LPL), and Vangie Lopez went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a double.

Templeton 9, Morro Bay 4, 13 innings

Ashley Stevens pitched a complete game in the win for the Eagles, allowing four runs on 15 hits and five walks.

Stevens also was 3 for 6 with two doubles, three RBI and three runs, including a two-run double in the top of the 13th inning.

Korinne Barto tied the score in the seventh with an RBI single for Templeton, and Kiani Alba added four hits for the Eagles.

Michelle Cordova had three hits, and Marissa Tabares tossed 121⁄3 innings and struck out 15 in the loss for the Pirates.

Coastal Christian 19, No. Co. Christian 6, 5 innings

Carley Miller was 2 for 3 with four RBI and a run scored, including a three-run home run in the fourth inning in the loss for the Crusaders.

Liz Crespo was 2 for 3 with a double, one RBI and two runs, and Grace Bolton went 2 for 3 as well for North County Christian (0-12, 0-5).

No Coastal Christian information was provided to the Tribune.


Mt. Sac Relays

Arroyo Grande’s Alana Benson placed second in the open division girls discus with a personal record of 115 feet and 7 inches. 

Samantha Henkel also had a PR (34-9) in placing third in the open division girls shot put.

Alex Mero placed fourth in the open division girls triple jump (35-1), which was also a season best for the Eagles.


Santa Ynez 3, Mission Prep 2

The Royals fell 21-25, 25-14, 22-25, 27-25, 15-13 in Santa Ynez.

Jack Mooney had 14 kills, 27 digs and nine blocks for Mission Prep (6-8).

Paul Thompkins added 12 kills, six digs and six blocks, Matt Souchek added nine blocks, and Sean O’Conner led the Royals with 37 assists.


GIRLS: Templeton 106, Nipomo 62

Ande Miller won the 200 freestyle (2:06.6) and the 100 freestyle (57.7), both in CIF qualifying times, as the Eagles defeated the Titans.

Marina Wesner placed first in the 200 IM, finishing in 2:27.1, a CIF qualifying time.

Haylee Mariucci finished the 50 freestyle in 27.8 for first, Marina Wesner won the 100 butterfly for Templeton (4-1) in 1:07.2, and Megan Miller won the 100 backstroke in 1:09.5.
