Cuesta swimmers have big day at Western State Conference Championships

Cougars set six school records on second day of three-day meet

The Cuesta College men's swimming team set six school records on the second day of the Western State Conference Championships in Los Angeles on Friday, finishing the day in first place with 583 points.

Ventura sits in second with 470 points.

The meet concludes today.

The men’s 800 freestyle relay team broke a school and conference record to place first. The team of Jackson Petty, Chris Reddick, Matt Giancanelli and Jeoran Meedering finished in 6:53.60.

Reddick won the 200 freestyle in 1:41.04, a school record, and Dominic Magliari broke a school record and won the 100 butterfly in 51.03.

Austin Bauer broke a school record in the 100 breaststroke (51.03) for second, and Meedering finished second in the 100 backstroke in 50.86, also a school record. 

The 200 medley relay of Meedering, Bauer, Magliari and Luke Walton finished in 1:33.4, placing second and setting a school record.

The women are fourth through two days with 262 points.

The 200 medley relay of Jerra Hagans, Katie Baird, Allie Reed and Karissa Sternfels finished third in 1:56.25.

Sternfels placed third in the 50 breaststroke (31.23), and Hagans placed third in the 50 backstroke (28.67).
