Softball squad shoots for CIF playoffs

In the aftermath of the Lady Broncos’ blow-out win (23-0) over Cuyama Valley Friday, April 12, assistant coach Toby Cinque pointed out that if the team had a choice, “we would play evenly matched teams each game.”

But the Coast Valley League is not evenly balanced, so coaches must keep the team focused.

“Our goal from day one is to see how far we can make it into playoffs,” Cinque commented. In 2012, Coast lost their first and only playoff game.

Cinque added that “Having a group of athletes assembled that have the potential to go far is a special moment,” and hence, he and the other coaches remind the players that they don’t want to look back 20 years from now and say, “I wonder what would have been the outcome if I tried just a little bit harder in practice.”

On Tuesday, April 16, Coast Union dominated North County Christian, 22-3. Gabby Bucio went four-for-four, Ellie Magnuson three-for-four and Maddie May had three hits and three RBIs.
