Cuesta Roundup: Cuesta baseball team remains hot with seventh straight win

The Cuesta College baseball team scored 14 runs through the first four innings against Santa Barbara, then fended off a late rally to defeat the Vaqueros 14-10 on Thursday.

The win extends the Cougars’ winning streak to seven games and increases the team’s lead atop the Western State Conference Northern Division to two games. 

Mac Stuart went 3 for 4 with an RBI, Spencer Ruggles went 2 for 4 with four RBI, and Parker Hindle went 3 for 5 with three RBI and three runs.

Andrew Nelson went seven innings to gain the win on the mound. He gave up six runs on six hits with three walks and five strikeouts.

Cuesta off to strong swimming start

The Cuesta men’s swimming and diving team is in second place after the first day of the Western State Conference tournament. Ventura is in first place.

The 200-meter freestyle relay of Jackson Petty, Juan Valdez, Dragan Dincic and Luke Walton placed second and earned a school record with a time of 1:22.83. 

Petty also placed third in the 500 freestyle (4:46.33).

Jeoran Meedering won the 200 IM (1:55.07), and Austin Bauer also placed third (1:57.02) in the event. 

Walton placed third in the 50 freestyle for the Cuesta men.
