Paso's Sherwood Dog Park celebrates anniversary

Here’s a look at upcoming animal-related events in San Luis Obispo County:

Sherwood Dog Parkaversary

Sherwood Dog Park of Paso Robles celebrates its one-year anniversary with a chili cook-off and hot dog extravaganza from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 27. Prizes will be awarded for best in show (judging panel selection), people's choice (everyone who attends will vote), and best-mixed breed (most unique). To enter your prize-winning chili, email to budandjanis@sbcglobal.net. Sherwood Dog Park T-shirts and baseball caps will be available for sale. For more information, call 239-4437.

Atascadero Pet Fest

Atascadero Main Street Association's second annual Colony Pet Fest will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 27 at 5965 Entrada Ave., in downtown Atascadero. The event will showcase San Luis Obispo County nonprofit organizations, artists, crafters and assorted vendors and a pet fashion show. Admission is free. For more information, call 460-6868.

Horse show and celebration of life

An open horse show and celebration of life for Don Hirons will be held on April 28 at the Atascadero Wranglerettes Arena. The show will begin at 9 a.m., with a variety of classes including hunters, English pleasure, Western pleasure, lead line, and walk-jog or trot classes. A celebration of life will take place at 1 p.m. for Don Hirons, who volunteered as an announcer for more than 40 years at local shows including Brush Poppers Riding Club, Wranglerettes, local ETI Corrals, Central Coast of California Arabian Horse Association, El Paso de Robles Arabian Horse Association and other groups. Wranglerette’s Arena is located at Tampico Avenue and Aragon Avenue in Atascadero. For entry information, call 674-5915, 467-2090 or email esopony@gmail.com.
