Tad Weber, managing editor of The Tribune, is leaving to become metro editor of The Fresno Bee, effective Monday. “It's an opportunity to work with a bigger newsroom in a metro market,” Weber said.

Weber, 53, joined The Tribune in March 2000 as city editor and was promoted to managing editor a few months later.

“He has been a key player in strengthening news coverage countywide, producing terrific journalism that has made a difference to readers and won many state and national awards,’’ said Executive Editor Sandra Duerr.

The Fresno Bee, like The Tribune, is owned by The McClatchy Co.

The search for Weber’s replacement is underway.

“Working and living in San Luis Obispo has been a tremendous experience,” Weber said. “I have the utmost affection and respect for the Tribune staff, the community and this special place.”
