Noni’s looking for a warm lap

Eighteen-year-old Noni is a sociable tortie.

‘For those who are drawn to senior dogs and cats, the attraction is multifaceted. In seniors, a lifetime of charm has been honed to near perfection, and the fine, almost etched, white hairs around the muzzle and eyes are beautiful.

“Noni is a small tortie whose graceful gait belies her 18 years. She’s a social cat who’s comfortable meeting new people and likes making friends. Noni’s years of experience have taught her to appreciate attention even in the bustle and noise that’s practically constant at the San Luis Obispo County Animal Services Shelter.

“Noni was one of anumber of house cats that came to the shelter when their owner could no longer provide for them. The majority of these cats have found new homes, but Noni continues to wait for a senior cat aficionado.

“Senior pets, such as Noni, generally come with deeply ingrained house manners as well as an appreciation of a good night’s sleep. As if these benefits were not enough, the nonprofit Animal Shelter Adoption Partners provides a $35 adopt-a-senior rebate for anyone adopting a county shelter dog or cat who’s 8 years old or older.

“Pets have a knack for living in the present and loving every moment. It’s a lesson we’d all benefit from learning. Senior pets take this ability to a higher level, and in a glance they express uncanny grace and an ageless ability to love.”
