Cal Poly softball swept by UC Santa Barbara

The Cal Poly softball team was swept in a Big West Conference doubleheader by visiting UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday, falling 3-1 in the opener before being shut out 1-0 in the nightcap.

In the opener, the Mustangs (16-24-1, 5-6) outhit the Gauchos 9-7, including a 3-for-4 performance from Jillian Anderson and two doubles from Kim Westlund. Lauren Moreno added two singles for Cal Poly.

Shelby Wisdom went the distance for UC Santa Barbara (23-15, 4-4), giving up one run on nine hits and striking out one. Chloe Wurst gave up two runs on five hits in 5 2⁄3 innings in the loss for the Mustangs.

In the nightcap, the Gauchos’ Alex Pingree won in a pitchers' duel, scattering four hits over seven shutout innings while striking out four.

Jordan Yates, who pitched the final 1 1⁄3 innings in the opener, gave up one run on five hits and struck out one over seven innings in the loss.

Anderson, Ashley Romano and Mariah Cochiolo all had one hit apiece for Cal Poly.
