Child seat safety events planned

The San Luis Obispo County Injury Prevention Coalition announced it will hold events to promote child car seat safety and offer installation checks in Shandon and Paso Robles.

Certified child passenger safety technicians will be available from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Shandon High School’s parking lot and April 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Target parking lot in Paso Robles.

Car accidents are the foremost cause of fatalities for children 13 and younger, and three out of four car seats are installed incorrectly. When correctly installed and used properly, car seats cut motor vehicle related child fatalities by half, according to a news release from the Public Health Department.

The event will be funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
