An Arroyo Grande teen will travel to Poland this summer on a cultural exchange sponsored by the Paderewski Festival, according to a festival news release.

Daniel Ha, 13, won second place in the junior division of the 2012 Paderewski Youth Piano Competition in Paso Robles.

This June, he’ll journey to the homeland of legendary Polish musician, composer and statesman Ignacy Jan Paderewski along with 13-year-old Jack Raventos of Orcutt, who took first place in the division.

According to the news release, the eight-day, all-expenses-paid trip includes workshops, master classes and concerts at Paderewski’s historic manor in Kąśna Dolna and Kraków. Ha and Raventos will also spend time interacting with students from the Polish city Tarnów and the Ukrainian city Khmilnyk.

A student at Judkins Middle School in Pismo Beach, Ha won first place in his division at the 2011 Paderewski Youth Piano Competition. The young pianist was also the district winner of the California Association of Professional Music Teachers honors competition in 2011 and 2012.

“Going to Poland this year will mean so much to me,” Ha said in the news release. “It will be an honor to perform and sleep in the manor of one of the greatest musicians of all time.”

In 2011, the Paderewski Festival sent San Luis Obispo resident Evan Lin and Monterey residents Jordan Adams and Madeline Anderson to Poland.
