Cal Poly's Devin Bennett finishes fifth in the decathlon at Santa Barbara meet

Cal Poly’s Deven Bennett placed fifth in the decathlon at the Sam Adams Multi Events meet Saturday in Santa Barbara, posting a personal-best total of 6,596 points.

Bennett placed first in the 1,500 meters in 4 minutes, 27.23 seconds, and set personal bests in the discus (149 feet, six inches) and the pole vault (13-31⁄2).

Gray Horn won with 7,526 points.

Jordan Hasay wins 1,500 meters at the Pepsi Team Invitational

Jordan Hasay took first place in the 1,500 meters at the Pepsi Team Invitational in Eugene, Ore.

Running for Oregon, the former Mission Prep star  finished with a time of 4 minutes, 20.19 seconds, almost two seconds faster than the next runner.

“It was a great opportunity because I only have a few more chances to run in front of this crowd in this uniform,” Hasay said in a news release. “I get a little nervous before races, but I know when I step on that start line, the crowd will be cheering and supporting me.”

Cal Poly at Fresno State Women’s Challenge

The Mustangs had five first place finishes in Clovis.

In track events, Hannah Edwards won the 1,500 in 4:34.6, and Erika Schaffer won the 3,000 steeplechase in 11:23.99 for Cal Poly.

In field events, Danielle Bryan won the high jump at 5-7, and Clara Davis won the pole vault at 11-8.
